chesapeake alerion is the home page of the Alerion Express 28 Chesapeake Bay Fleet. Members from both the Eastern and western shores of the mid-Bay region share a passion for sailing the "prettiest lady at the dance." We get together at least once a year to enjoy some casual racing and more serious partying. This site includes recaps and photo collections of our prior Rendezvous' and one-design racing activities. Enjoy!

One-design Racing

Our fifth year of one-design racing is underway. It features seven regattas. For a list of the remaining regattas and the results to date, see here.

Any Alerion Express 28 sailing with a non-overlapping jib can participate in these events. No PHRF rating is required. For more information on the racing requirements, contact Jack Detweiler at this address. To sign up for the individual regattas, contact the sponsoring organization.

There will be a season-long high point competition. The overall winner's boat name will be engraved on the perpetual trophy and the owner will receive an engraved award commemorating the achievement. CBYRA's high point scoring system will be used. In each race in each event, boats will receive points equal to the number of boats she beats plus one point for starting and one point for finishing. Total points earned will be converted to a decimal fraction; highest fractional score is the overall season winner.

Annual Rendezvous

On Saturday, September 24, the annual rendezvous will again return to Oxford on the Eastern Shore. An afternoon series of short-course races on the Tred Avon River will kick off the regatta portion of the event.  The Tred Avon Yacht Club will be the center of activity and the R ”2” buoy off the club house will be the starting mark for the races.  Following the regatta, owners and quests will convene on the terrace of the Robert Morris Inn for cocktails, dinner and awards.

For Alerions coming some distance, there will be a limited number of slips or moorings available at the Yacht Club both Friday and Saturday nights. Owners and guests arriving on Friday are welcome to use the club’s facilities that evening.  To sign your boat up for space at the Yacht Club, contact Jack Detweiler at this address.

The Links section includes the Alerion Yachts site, the manufacturer's marketing site for the boat and so has very complete information on the Alerion Express 28 and other Alerions in the product line. North Point Yacht Sales in Annapolis is the local dealer for all things Alerion. The San Francisco Bay Fleet has a very active racing and social program. The Boatyard Bar & Grill is a sailor's hangout in Annapolis and its owner, Dick Franyo, has the good taste to also own an Alerion. SpinSheet is a must-read publication for serious Bay sailors and the site's not too shabby either.

Annapolis Yacht Club and Eastport Yacht Club are again hosting this year's one-design races.
