2019 AYC Spring Harbor Regatta Race Report

Updated: Jul 30, 2019

We would like to welcome the two new Alerions racing with our fleet on Saturday; Eric & Shannon Dahl on "Linnaea", and Andrew & Emily Eyring on "Hero Squad". They are a great addition to our active fleet and made for competitive racing and interesting starts. Both boats acquitted themselves very well in their initial outing with us, especially "Hero Squad" in winning the Regatta. "Halcyon" finished second overall and "Magic" finished third. Official race results are posted at yachtscoring.com and pasted below.

We had 7 boats sail under cloudy skies in the AYC Spring Harbor Regatta on Saturday, which consisted of the Harbor 20 and Alerion 28 Fleets. The wind was  a variable 6-12 knots of breeze out of the north north east. 3 - 2 lap windward/leeward races were conducted. The starting line for each race was set up near the entrance to Lake Ogleton with .3 and .4 mile weather legs at 20 and 40 degrees.

Thanks to Bob Spann, "Resilient", for his trek up from Herrington Harbor to race with us on Saturday. It takes a lot of effort, requiring a day up and a day back and we appreciate his contribution to our racing fleet.

A special thank you goes also to Jason Goscha and Stacey Anderson, "Halcyon" for hosting an after race party and dinner on Saturday evening at their home in Eastport. They provided all the food and drink, which was really quite lavish and enabled everyone to have a truly great time. It was good to get old and new members together, including many that did not race on Saturday. It really helps to build a great spirit in the fleet with a gathering of this sort. Hopefully, this tradition will continue.

Our next scheduled Regatta is on June 1, The Annapolis Leukemia Cup. I know that some of our fleet are unavailable, but hopefully we can get enough boats to sign up in order that we can have a start in this Regatta. Please register here. Please also visit the Annapolis Leukemia Cup Website to make a donation to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society in support of "Team Alerion Express 28".
